Modern education system emphasized only on intelligence & developing the brain and doesn’t guarantee peaceful world. So, in order to overcome these problems, His Holiness said that materialistic education should go side by side with education based on universal ethics, ‘peace of mind, warm heartedness and compassion’. Whether one believes in religion or not, everyone rejoices and loves to have somebody showing them love and affection. Right from the moment of our birth, we are under the care and kindness of our parents; later in life, when we are facing the sufferings of disease and old age, we are again dependent on the kindness of others. If at the beginning and at end of our lives we depend upon other’s kindness, why then in the middle ages should we not act kindly towards others? It is a common experience that compassionate person has a calmer mind. Compassion is the pillar of world peace as compassion will remain as a humane response to suffering as long as human beings continue to suffer.

Ethics based on universal values, rather than religious principles is what His Holiness the Dalai Lama has advocated from time to time. His message of love and peace is beginning to bear fruit as more and more Indian schools are starting to inculcate universal ethics in their school curriculum.
